West of Cooke County along the Red River border with Oklahoma are the soft rolling hills and spectacular sunsets of Montague County. The Town of Bowie embraces its pioneer heritage with activities throughout the year celebrating rodeos and its location for the last stop on the Chisholm Trail before herds were turned north. Although Bowie’s residents number just over 5,000, plenty of big business, medical care, grocery stores and job opportunities are available for the good life in a small town. The historic Main Street is loaded with restaurants and boutiques. The Town of Saint Jo can be found a little farther north in Montague County, which is home to a cute town square with restaurants, including Red River Station BBQ, which hosts big name concerts throughout the year. Way out on the Sunday drivable roads of Montague County, towns like Nocona and Forestburg mirror the rustic home-grown friendly feel of the entire area.
